Matting Borderless Prints
Every frame we ship out comes with strips of archival tape to keep your artwork in place behind the mat.
Trusting the pressure of the backing board to keep the artwork in place will likely result in it slipping from behind the window over time.
Using our tips, you will be able to easily hinge your work to keep it secure.
Step One: Remove the mat and foam
Firstly, wash your hands and make sure they are dry to ensure you don't mark the mat or work.
Start by opening up your new frame and removing the mat and foam backing. You should never need to remove your glass, so leave it in the frame with the face of the frame facing down.
Step Two: Line up your work
To make your life as easy as possible, every mat and backing will be hinged so lining your work up is simple.
Place your work on the backing and lay the mat flat on the work. Shuffle print until at least a few mm are covered on every side.
To keep the work from moving while taping it, place an object in the middle, ensuring it has no sharp edges that will scratch your print.
Step Three: Tape it down
Double check the work is straight by ensuring it lines up with the outside edge of the mat.
Rip or cut your piece of tape in half. Put a strip of tape on either side of the top of the print.
Do this step gently, and press down lightly to begin with so you can check the alignment.
Step Four: Check your print alignment
With the tape gently applied to the print and board, place mat back down to ensure you are happy with the alignment. Adjust by gently popping the tape up if necessary.
Step Five: Press tape firmly
When you are happy with your alignment, press firmly but gently to properly adhere the tape. Be sure to run your thumb along to check the whole strip is stuck down.
Step Six: Place back in the frame
Now everything is secure, place your mat back in the frame, checking the glass is clean before you do and removing any dust where required.
Place foam backing into place to secure and fold pins down until snug against the backing.
